Technologies Investment ManagerCo-founded company to invest in and promote sustainable technology, practices and land use.  Investments included agricultural land in Hawaii and secured loans to a Maui-based bamboo importer, marketing and sales company.

Carbon Trading Co. President and General Counsel.  Co-founded company to develop and exploit carbon sequestration, marketing, consulting and trading opportunities under the Kyoto Protocol.  Consultant to largest landowner in California concerning on 325 acre sustainable forestry and carbon sequestration pilot project.  Landowner later expanded project to encompass landholdings and set the standards for California state carbon trading.

January 1997 to December 2005

Environmental Investment Co. General Counsel and Partner. Structured and counseled sustainable development and investment company which invested several million dollars in research and early stage companies to stimulate rural economic development and sustainable agricultural technologies in the United States, Canada and at Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. Non wood pulp and paper; industrial hemp agriculture and processing; and waste treatment technology.

March 2002 to December 2003

Digital Media Co. General Counsel and Director.  Structured and counseled digital media company which was sold to to large internet company for several million dollars.

November 1993 to December 1996

Entertainment Co. Partner and General Counsel.  Co-founded film     production company.  Produced independent films and a music video.  Financed early films of Salvador Litvak, a Los Angeles based independent filmmaker.

 

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

January 2000 to December 2003

Digital Media College Professor:  Business and Law of Media.  Taught 30 hour course to explain law and business to “layperson” candidates for bachelor’s degrees in digital media arts (video, sound and websites).  Developed curriculum which covered: the Constitution; legal and judicial system; role of lawyers and attorney-client privilege; business organizations; financial statements; taxes; copyrights; trademarks; contracts; torts; publicity rights and new media law, licensing; business and media deals.

 

NON-PROFIT EXPERIENCE

June 2007 to Present

Responsible Mining NGO Legal Director.  NGO works with tribal, nonprofit and community groups to oppose uranium mining in and near the Black Hills of South Dakota and Pine Ridge Indian Reservation.  Federal administrative litigation in Nuclear Regulatory Commission licensing proceedings.

October 2002 to 2007

Innocent Victims NGO President, General Counsel and Director.   NGO helps innocent noncombatants and their families who are injured or killed in Afghanistan and Iraq to obtain medical care and compensation. Served as President to accomplish smooth transition during 2005 after founder (client and friend) was killed doing humanitarian work in Baghdad.  Crisis management; Coalesced Board of Directors; managed hiring of new Executive Director and Associate Director, public relations and grant acquisitions.

June 2004

Middle East Peace Mission, Travel Crew Member.  Accompanied musician/filmmaker on 10 day trip to West Bank and Gaza, Jordan and Israel, as legal and security support on documentary film project.
